Stencil Giveway!

I have been out of practice for using stencils in my artwork, but when The Crafters Workshop came calling, I said, why yes! I would love to try out some of your stencils!

How to incorporate stencils into my abstract art is a little challenging to me. I don't want them to look deliberate..or uniform..so I take extra care to spray or paint through them haphazardly. I also don't want them to look like someone else's art..I take bits and pieces of the stencil and lay them throughout the art and I think I overcome those challenges pretty well.

Gracious Jaime over at The Crafter's Workshop sent me a bunch of stencils...that I want to share with you! Leave me a comment and list one of the ways you will use the stencils if you win the drawing. I will pick one winner on May 9th (international entries welcome!!) for a package of 7 brand new 12x12" stencil templates. I think you did a great job with the stencils! I love stencils, and use them a lot. If I think a stencil looks too much like a stencil I overpaint parts and make them look more natural. I've got lots of Crafters stencils, but only the small ones, so I would love to win the big ones ;-) Thank you so much for the chance! And for the idea, I will pull out my stencils and use them in one of my Act Natural paintings LOL

at the moment (but that can be changed tomorrow) i use stencils with wax crayons: i put the stencil under my paper and scratch with the crayon. Leaves a waxy, not too precise, partial image that i cover with watercolor, spray ink or Tombow twintips. Thanks Julie and Jaime for this opportunity winning stencls!

I think you did a great job with the stencil! There are so many stencils being used these days it is hard to make them your own and not have your work look like everyone elses.

I use CW stencils all the time in my art journal. I also make handmade canvas pillow covers and use CW stencils on those as well.

I would use the stencils in my mixed media whether on grunge board projects or lately thinking of making another configuration box, this would add some design and could use texture paste over it too to give dimension! thanks for a giveaway!

I am working on a project to be donated to the Sierra Club for either their lodge here in the Laguna Mountains or for a fundraiser. I am creating a mixed media collage focusing on natural outdoor elements like leaves and animals. Stencils are part of the under-painting and the front elements! Well, for starters, I would use them to finish up one of the paintings I'm working on for the layer love class, that I have yet to finish. Depending on the stencil, I have been wanting to do some paintings on a pair of jean jackets I'm working on. I have many uses for stencils, and have been working on building up my selection, so I'll have a broader palate to work with. Thanks for having this drawing!

I love stencils and to date, for me, The Crafter's Workshop's ones are the best.
I will use them to add interest and texture in my mixed media paintings, and fun in my art journal pages.

I would love to try out those stencils in my art journal. i don't have a lot of them so it would be fun to work with some new stuf. Mostly I use acrylic paint of wax crayons. I think they would realy mak a beautiful new layer.

Julie, I am in love with my stencils (for the ones I have, anyway), but I usually push through gesso, molding pastes or gel medium in them. They give such dimension and texture that put me in happy place. I've never spray painted on them , but I must try that. Thank you for a great giveaway. Judy

I love stencils. Have only just started using them with gesso and modeling paste - a technique I really love. I usually use them for positive and negatives using Dylusions spray inks.

I love what you did with the stencils. Subtle, but striking.

I want to try using paste or gel to create raised images which then can be colored with inks and/or paints.

I like the way you have incorporated the stencil in your abstract piece. I make lots of cards, books and ATCs so bits and pieces of stencils work well. One can always paint or ink over portions as you did to make them less a part of the whole.
